I am currently the conductor of the Ventura County Concert Band, a community ensemble featuring players of all ages and skill levels.
I have also appeared as a guest conductor with the Nova Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, the Fox Valley Symphony, and the Las Vegas Philharmonic. My conducting repertoire ranges from baroque works for chamber orchestra, through symphonic works of the late 19th century, to contemporary works for wind band, including works by David Maslanka, John Mackey, and Michael Markowski; I have studied conducting with Jung Ho Pak, Steven Amundson, Timothy Mahr, and Thomas Leslie.
Saxophone is my principal instrument, and my primary teachers have been Mr. Patrick Moriarty and Dr. Scott Kallestad; I have participated in master classes with Mark McArthur, Dr. Timothy McAllister, Bobby Shew, and Chris Potter. Performing with the St. Olaf Saxophone Quartet, I was a finalist in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition in 2001, and shared a Grammy nomination with members of the St. Olaf Band for Best New Classical Recording in 2003. In 2005, I shared a Minnesota Music Award nomination with other members of the art-rock band Thunder in the Valley, and I played extensively on the Las Vegas Strip with multiple jazz and pop groups from 2005 to 2010. My classical solo repertoire includes works by Milhaud, Glazunov, Creston, Heiden, Maslanka, Maurice, Noda, and Glass, among others.
